Drivin' is serious business. Ask him where he's driving to, you'll get one of three answers. In the "Big Truck" is either "Drivin' Home Depot" or "Dive Shop". In the Rav or "Mommy's car" it's "Grocery store!".

Drivin'!
Let Matt see the car keys and he's got only one thing on his mind, "Drivin'!"

San Juans Trip 2010
After a few years of not attending due to varying degrees of being broke, or having an infant, Jamie and I decided it would be good to get back to the San Juans with the crew that I have been going with since I was a little kid.
We took off Friday and headed for the ferry. We made it just in time for a 2:45 sailing. (We got there at 12:45!) and made our way down to the beach. GranDan joined us a few minutes later after his retirement party. Matt had a good time throwing rocks and looking for sand crabs.
Look at the size of that puddle!
Mommy found some sand crabs!
Back in line waiting for the Ferry.
We finally made it on-board, but GranDan was 7 cars too late, and got to sit in the ferry line for another few hours. Matt met some other kids on the boat and had a good time just running around and playing.
Cuddling with Mommy.
Going on the BIG boat.
We finally arrived to find Grandma, Elicia, Ryan and Ned sitting on the deck at the restaurant. Matt went after some Auntie food.
Mmmm Fries!
The next morning we got up and walked to "town" to get some food and coffee.
Matt led grandma in case she tried to get lost.
Uncle Ned gave Matt a boost part of the way.
Saturday was the only day of the trip open for crabbing, so we made several runs out to pull pots. Erica and Felix joined in on the fun while Matt napped.
Boat ride!
Not sure if Fe looks like he trusts Dan's driving skills...
Some the folks brought bikes, and rode south to a "beach" on the island. Jamie, Matt and I joined grandma Erica and Felix in the chase cars. We had a nice little walk through the woods, but all we found were cliffs with a nice view.
The boys getting ready to go.
Felix was so bummed that we didn't find a beach he decided to make his own.
We finally got going home for dinner after a small key debacle. Who lost their keys? I refuse to incriminate anyone.
Almost no one the weekend escaped the Matt "hand?" request.
Matt and Ethan off for a walk.
Sunday morning we all got up and headed back to "town" for breakfast.
The crew.
Felix is fed and making a break for it.
We then headed out to find some REAL beach. Most of the group drove, Ned and I brought the inflatable around the point to the park.
Elena and Phyllis enjoying the beach.
What IS Uncle Ryan doing?
Playing in the sand.
Hmmm, who's going to get to play with the truck?
Boot are great for walking on the beach
Matt W. and I took little Matt, Felix and Maya for a little boat ride.
I think Matt had fun at the beach.
Sometimes it's good to just escape the crowd in the hotel room, both for Matt's sanity, and ours.
Baby Tickling.
I just like this picture, happy baby.
It's a good place to read books too.
The Dawson/Walters group had a large suite with a kitchen, which gave the group a place to gather for dinner. Matt and Felix had a lot of fun together.
Well, what do you want to watch?
Felix, I don't think you're supposed to eat that.
Hello?
Notice Matt found a "tool". Crab crackers.
Monday most of the crew had to leave, so it was just the Virnig/Rogers group. We headed out to Jones island in search of beaches and deer. Matt had fun on the boat, but he seems to pass out after 5 minutes, no matter what.
Ready to go!
Poppy the boat dog.
O--U--T..OUT!
When we got to the dock we let him finish sleeping it off in the hold.
When Matt finally got up we headed out for a walk. Still making sure Grandma doesn't get lost.
Uncle Ryan, the human stroller.
We made it to the beach on the other side of the island, Matt got to throw some rocks.
We found the deer!
Some older kid gave Matt carrots to feed to the deer. Deer seem to like carrots.
After the other kids got bored Matt gave chase to the deer. If Felix had been with him they would have caught him.
Back in the boat and ready to find some lunch.
After a minor detour in search of lunch, we stopped in Friday Harbor for lunch and ice cream.
Matt's 1st cone. I think he likes it....
On the ride back to the resort, yep...
We headed up to relax and get some dinner for our last night on the island.
The important thing in this picture is that
mere seconds before, that was Auntie's fruit leather...
Tug of war! Pretty equally matched size-wise.
Sunset.
Auntie and Grandma gave Matt a bath while Jamie and I had a dinner at the restaurant. Sleepy boy.
After a good night of sleep, Matt got up on the last day ready to go!
We got him dressed and had some breakfast before heading for the Ferry line.
It's bright!
Paparazzi again!
No beach to wait for the Ferry here, but they had the next best thing, "Big Truck"!
Back on the Ferry and headed home. This time everyone made it on.
It was a fun weekend, but a long one. Matt had to rest up again.
A few random video clips from the weekend.
Thanks everybody for making Matt's first San Juans trip so much fun!
Congratulations to GranDan on his retirement (finally) from the Boeing Company after 34 years! Now that you have all that time on your hands, Matt wants to do some more boating!
Jake
