The Barking Frog!

This is Matt's new frog shaped room humidifier, just arrived today.

Tonight after tub time I was carrying him into his room, and he let go of "quite a bit" of gas.  And when I say "quite a bit" I mean an adult size flatulation. Seriously, it was loud.

After finishing up, he giggles, then gets serious, looks at me, points at the frog, and says "Frog did farted!".

That's right folks, not even two and he's blaming it on the barking frog.

Happy Monday!

Turtles and Max

Matt has been playing with his stuffed animals a lot more lately.  He has a giraffe that lives in the crib that he sleeps with, and a pair of turtles (big turtle and little turtle).

The other day he came down to the kitchen with a pile of wipes and diapers, declaring that the turtle "Pooped.  Need a change it."

This is the resulting video, with a little bit of big turtle thrown in at the end.  Sorry it so long, but I couldn't bring myself to edit it down.(needs sound for sure!)

After that Jamie decided it was good time to break out his "little buddy" that we had been saving.  Matt's been carrying him around a lot, though not as much as "little turtle".

He named him Max after the charcter in his favorite Potty book.  So guess where Max wound up?

A few randoms that were too good not to post.

I don't think those are your shoes buddy...

Everybody's working hard.

This is for Isaac, who asked why Craig the bear hasn't made an appearance lately.
Matt's big enough to pick him up and toss him around now, he's been hiding out.

Doin' the Puyallup!

Thursday Matt, Jamie and I went to the Fair with Grandma and GranDan.  Since it was raining things weren't too crazy and Matt could walk right up to most of the stuff we wanted to see.  After going through the usually 4H animal stuff we headed out to the petting farm.

Checking out the baby chickens.

I'm not sure about the wisdom of letting little kids pet chicks.  I'm thinking when a one bites it they just grab another one out of that bin.  I thought for sure they were going to have to get a new one after Matt went for the box.

Bunnies seem more robust.

This goat was non-compliant with Matt, but GranDan knew how to fix that.

Huggin' goats.

From the Petting Farm we went to the Pioneers display.  We didn't even need the interpreter, GranDan knew how to use everything from his childhood.

Cutting firewood

Making wagon spokes.

Pumping up some water. I didn't take Matt long to figure this one out.

Churning some butter.

Chopping Carrots.

After the Pioneer exhibit we made our way to the Pony rides.

Look at the hand positioning.  No big deal here, just ridin' my horse.

Hi Mom!

I think he had fun.

He didn't make it very far from the Pony rides before the day caught up with him. One tired boy.

D-O-N-E!
All in all a very fun day at the fair!

Oregon Coast Trip

A good chunk of the Virnig family gathered last week on the Oregon coast to celebrate Uncle Terry's 60th birthday and GranDan's retirement.

Matt had a absolute blast with everybody, and got to have a lot of fun playing in the sand. Though he wasn't quite so sure about the temperature of the pacific ocean, he did get his feet wet a few times.
Sand is cool!

Runnin'

I like the beach!

Hanging out on Proposal Rock.  We crawled through a hole in the rocks to watch the waves up close.

Tina and Isaac helping Matt do some digging.

Collecting treasures

Matt spent about 2 hours here making sand "mud pies"

The pie maker

We did a lot of walking on the beach and in the little community we were staying in.  Matt had fun because he was always holding at least one hand, preferably two.

Walking with GranDan

GranDan and Cousin Isaac making sure he didn't get too close to the water.

Making sure Auntie and Uncle made it safely back to the house.

Matt had a lot of fun with Auntie Tina and Cousin Isaac.  Feeding the gulls the leftover garlic bread from the night before was a good way to torture the annoying shorebirds.  I'm guessing several will die prematurely just from the amount of salt in that single meal.

The house we were staying at had a cool row boat rocker that Matt enjoyed playing in.  Surprisingly he never fell out.

Matt especially had fun with Isaac, who was really the only other "kid" on the trip.
Don't strain yourself Isaac, he's heavy!

That's better.

I wonder what Isaac did, but I'm sure he deserved a little "Baby Smackdown".  Isaac did learn quickly the #1 rule of wrestling with toddlers.  Cover your crotch!

Note Isaac's crotch protective posture later in the trip.

Uncle James was showing GranDan something on his smartphone.  Matt just heard "phone" and had to go check it out.

Even with all those people there Matt made sure to spend some quality time with Grandma.  I like the mischievous look on his face here.

Matt's first sucker.  It didn't last long before it bit the dust on the deck (I think the raccoons at it on their nightly visit)

Terri's party was "Animal house themed, so Toga's were out in force.  Even Matt got in on the theme.

Of course at a Virnig family party, a cow had to make an appearance.  This time it was a pinata.
Matt participating in the great Virnig cow stomping tradition.

I think Auntie Tina had some fun shopping for party decorations.  The "nose cups" were pretty funny, especially since this one looked exactly like Ben's nose.

Getting ready to leave, Matt did some dancing with Auntie Tina.

Anything to keep a toddler entertained on a 7 hour car ride.  Luckily one the way home he slept for a while.

This isn't a picture from the ocean, but the story begins there.  At home I normally wake up once a night to go give Matt a drink from his water bottle.  One of the nights at the ocean Jamie heard Matt moving around at night.  She watched him lean out of his pack and play, reach down, and grab his water bottle.  He took a few sips, put the bottle back and went back to sleep.

These water bottles tend to leak a little, so we'd rather not just leave one in his crib, but I prefer to sleep though the night, so we got creative.  We call this the baby Hamster bottle.  Matt now asks to be put in his crib to take a drink, and he hasn't been waking us up at night for water.

The baby hamster bottle.

I didn't mention everybody who came to the ocean with us, but to everybody who was there thanks so much for inviting us and making Matt's first trip to the ocean so much fun!
